The abbreviation SOP  has been used to refer to either Standard Operating Procedures which can include procedures such as looking after customers as well as safety related procedures such as Manual Handling. Safety related procedures are therefore also known as Safe Work Method Statements.

Note: Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) are also known as Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS). Non safety related procedures are found in the Staff Handbook
